OPIUM TRAIL
This collection traces cultivation of opium in Afghanistan to the sale and use of opioids in public parks in Western nations. Opium, derived from the poppy plant, has a long history of use for both medicinal and recreational purposes. However, its production has become a global crisis with the UN reporting 37% increase in recent years, leading to issues such as poverty, violence, and addiction. The cultivation and production of opium often involve illegal and unethical practices, including labour exploitation, corruption, and environmental degradation. Use of opium and its derivatives have also resulted in serious health issues such as overdose, the spread of diseases, and mental health challenges. Additionally, profits from the opium trade fuel conflicts and instability in affected regions. Through this photo collection, I aim to highlight these issues, ignite meaningful discussions, and inspire positive action.
